Smart solutions
Seaports have evolved into sophisticated multi-modal hubs with enormous significance for societal development.
Seaports have evolved into sophisticated multi-modal hubs with enormous significance for societal development. Therefore, enormous functional demands are placed on their infrastructure with regard to security, reliability, accessibility and efficiency; this in combination with demands on environmental and social sustainability, while at the same time they are subject to extraordinary wear and tear caused by heavy loads, harsh climates, saltwater, deicing, etc. Finding smart solutions to ensure sustainable functionality is the exciting challenge that motivates our port consultants on a daily basis. Our port consultants are primarily based in Stockholm, Gothenburg, Malmö, Jönköping and Norrköping.
Analysis, planning and design of seaports
Our seaport consultants work on various phases of investigation, from analyses of investment with from a life-cycle perspective, sustainability and logistical studies, water system feasibility studies, systems documentation, 3D design and visualisation, preparation of tenders, procurement support and development of long-term, optimised maintenance plans.
The work we produce is generally used as supporting documentation, guidelines or governance documents in the upcoming project phase. An important goal of these types of investigation and analyses is to provide our clients with the necessary information to decide on and implement well-informed, long-term investments.
Project management, construction management and inspections of seaports
We act as the client’s representative during the implementation of projects; taking overall responsibility for environmental issues, security, scheduling and budget and of course technical and quality issues – in short, delivery of the facility.
We take great pains to ensure a good working environment and an ambitious health and safety standards and to maintain excellent relations with all third parties. Naturally, we also plan and lead project, construction management and budget meetings, monitor applications for and compliance with any necessary permits and participate in negotiations with prospective contractors.
We are more than happy to take on roles such as inspection responsibility under the Planning and Building Act or contract verification, both of course carried out by experienced and certified members of staff.
In summary, as our client you may rest assured that when you engage Pontarius for the implementation of your project – you can do so safe in the knowledge that we will take care of your interests.
MicroPAVER™ makes maintenance scheduling of surfaces laid with concrete and other materials in seaport environments easier
A decision making tool from the 1970s
MicroPAVER™ has a proven history since its development by the US military during the 1970s. Its purpose then, as now, was to streamline the repair and maintenance of paved surfaces. In particular, surfaces of asphalt and concrete. Today, MicroPAVER™ is a widely used program in a variety of industries. For example, ports, airports, roads and industrial environments.
MicroPAVER™ stores and analyses data on the condition of the port’s paved surfaces. By analysing this data, the program is able to calculate when a given paved surface should be maintained to minimise unforeseen and unnecessary costs and unplanned disruption to operations.
WHAT WE HAVE TO OFFER
Pontarius has over 15 years of experience of working with MicroPAVER™. Since its inception the programme has been used worldwide, primarily for ports, roads, industrial environments and airports and is implemented in one or more of the following stages.
- Ocular inspection of the surface.
- A PCI (Pavement Condition Index) provides the client with a survey of the paved surface’s condition according to a standardised scale.
- A concrete surface has a different surface degradation curve to an asphalt surface. This curve is determined taking into consideration a number of factors, such as loads, usage and the environment in which the surface is located.
- Finally, a report is prepared recommending action required for maintenance and repair. A budget for optimised maintenance costs can also be presented.
Ports, together with maintenance planning of paved surfaces, are one of our areas of expertise. With the aid of MicroPAVER™, we can help you to minimise operational costs. Please get in touch for further information.
