PRESS RELEASE

Pontarius – the urban development consultancy integrating business development, legal services, finance, environment, management, and engineering – has been commissioned to lead the engineering of civil works, roads and streets, as well as utility coordination for Phase 3 of Munksjöstaden in Jönköping. The project forms part of the ongoing transformation of the former industrial area surrounding the southern part of Lake Munksjön, where a new urban district is gradually taking shape.

The first part of Phase 3 is now under construction and includes the development of public spaces such as streets, squares, and park environments. The development will be carried out in stages and will be followed by additional sub-projects within the area.

Pontarius is responsible for the design and coordination of the overall infrastructure in collaboration with Sweco, which is responsible for water and wastewater design, and Billingham & Flygare, which is responsible for landscape architecture and design.

Several historic industrial buildings will be preserved within Phase 3, giving the area a strong identity and unique character. An important part of our assignment has been to integrate new streets, squares, and park environments with the existing buildings in a way that works both aesthetically and technically. At the same time, we have developed robust solutions for stormwater management and flood mitigation to create a sustainable and future-proof urban environment, says Markus Ottosson, Project Manager at Pontarius.

The detailed development plan for Phase 3 enables the continued transformation of Munksjöstaden into a mixed-use district comprising housing, commercial activities, and public spaces. The project is an important part of Jönköping’s long-term urban development strategy, in which former industrial land is being transformed into attractive urban environments.
